Dr. Karen Miskell

Painting

Karen Miskell, DMA, is the Music Department Chairperson and Director of Vocal Activities at VVC. Dr. Miskell earned a Doctorate of Choral Music from the University of Southern California (May 2018). While attending USC, she was a member of the Thornton Chamber Singers; through this esteemed ensemble, she has sung at events such as the 2014 World Choral Symposium in Seoul, Korea and with artists such as Sir Elton John at the 2013 Emmy Awards. Originally from Ohio, Dr. Miskell earned a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Miami in 2005 and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Northern Arizona University in 2013. In between the two degrees, she taught public middle and high school choir in the Clark County School District of Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Miskell is an active adjudicator and clinician at festivals and schools across the US, and is thrilled to be working with the fine musicians at VVC.

Rosemary Rivas

Drawing/Life Drawing

Rosemary Rivas is an artist from Southern California that is an active member of the local art community. She is a recent graduate of Victor Valley College with a degree in Fine Arts, and currently attends California State University San Bernardino where she plans to further her studies in the art field. Her area of focus is traditional mediums, including painting and drawing. She aspires to be a college-level art instructor.

Thom Bond

Photography

Thom Bond is the owner of American Art & Frame Co. in Apple Valley since 1986 specializing in custom framing and fine art.  He was a photographer in the US Air Force for 5 years. He also worked at the George AFB Hobby Shop running the photo hobby shop and setting up the framing operation there. He started his photography adventure at San Bernardino Valley College prior to joining the Air Force.

Sergey Astakhov 

2D Design, CART, Photoshop

Sergey Astakhov is a Director and filmmaker. He is co-creator of Northgate Entertainment, a California based film production company. He is an art school graduate from California State University Fullerton with a degree in Entertainment Art/Illustration. Sergey’s body of work ranges from commercials, music videos and films. His portfolio includes projects created with established musicians, fashion brands, fashion models, known actors and prolific artists. Working hand in hand with his Brother Dmitriy, their camaraderie earned them the name “The Astakhov Brothers” within the filmmaking community.

Mary Vasquez 

3D Design (3D Design, Sculpture)

Mary Vasquez is a recent graduate from Victor Valley College. Vasquez recently transferred to California State University, Fullerton where she is pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Art. This February, she worked in collaboration with the Arts Connection Network, a nonprofit organization, and the Victor Valley Museum. She helped curate the Community Arts Dialogue and community art exhibition. Vasquez works at Action Youth America as their Art Director. In addition, she runs a website and shop where she is dedicated to the Printmaking Arts. Currently, she is developing an online based art school that will be run in collaboration with other artists.
